Highländlers at the GA state capital

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

The Highländlers traveled to Atlanta on Wednesday, for Home Educators Day at the Capitol.

We met with lots of legislators, were in the offices of the governor and of Senator Tolleson, and Tina, our director, gave a short speech about the education situation in Germany and Switzerland. We have been invited back to the capitol for photos and endorsements to take with us on our tour this summer, on behalf of the homeschoolers in those countries.

As we spoke with people about the situation in Europe, numerous comments were made about the need to preserve our own position of freedom. When we see the plight of others, it causes us to truly appreciate the sweetness of the freedoms that we enjoy and to deepen the resolve to preserve them.

Our group was very privileged to have the opportunity to give a short performance to a large crowd in front of the governor’s offices.

Historic Invitation to Homeschoolers

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

For over 100 years, no one outside their historic association has ever been invited to be part of of this festival. Their actors are perfectly costumed, their town rich with history, and this year an American group of homeschoolers has been privileged to become a part of that history.

Charming Rothenburg, Germany, is home to the Meistertrunk Fest. This major medieval festival re-enacts the historic Thirty Years War (c.1631) every year at Pentecost.

The Highländlers has been invited to give Scottish performances on May 30 and June 1, 2009, in the Market Square. This will be part of our month-long mission to give support to German homeschoolers.

On Whitsuntide 1881 the Rothenburgers and even then thousands of guests from all over Germany and abroad celebrated the first performance of the Historical Festival Play in the Town Hall’s Imperial Hall.
It became an overwhelming success.

Still today, the Historic Festival Association succeeds every year in reviving the past with this stage play and numerous authentic scenes in front of the unique set of the medieval historic town centre.

Neubronner Family Update

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

The Neubronner Family is a German homeschool family that lives in Bremen who is suffering from persecution.

This is an update from the Neubronner family:

Dear friends of freedom of education,

we’ve lost the second process at the bars of the higher administrative court again. The court denied all motions to take evidence, rejected our appeal, denied revision and denied legal aid. These are the bad news.

The good news are: There was and is a high media echo. Several national TV and radio stations and many national newspapers additional to all local media documented the trial and told our story emphatically. We will wait for the reasons given for the judgement and then decide about the next legal steps. Probably we will appeal to the Constitutional Court and also to the European Court. The latter has already in other cases forced Germany to change its performance.
